St. Louis / Pasta

We have settled into our new apartment in St. Louis. We are slowly learning our way around. We went to the St. Louis Zoo last weekend because it was 50+ degrees outside and beautiful. The zoo was awesome and free. Of course, we forgot to take our camera, but we will be making repeat visits there.
One of the things we got for Christmas was the pasta roller attachment for our stand mixer, so Erin made pasta last weekend. It was surprisingly easy and the results were delicious.

We had Thanksgiving in our studio apartment this year. There were 11 of us total, with Erin’s family and some other friends. Here are some links to the pictures from the week.

After Thanksgiving we went to Madison for Pete’s thesis defense. Tony made a D-Fence for the occasion. We also went to New York City to see Mary Poppins on Broadway, which was amazing. We also got to see Time Square, Central Park, and the Rockefeller Christmas Tree.

Long Island

We went to Long Island this past weekend for a somewhat relaxing time. We got caught in some traffic because they are filming a new Batman movie in New York City and ventured into Harlem (that was an experience). Highlights from the trip were:

1. Seeing the tickler (feather on a long stick) used in old churches to keep people awake during long sermons.

2. Fire Island Seashore and Lighthouse

3. Seeing the US Navy blimp at Floyd Bennett Field in Brooklyn

4. Teddy Roosevelt’s house and farm (we have decided he is our favorite president)

5. General Grant’s Memorial which is the largest mausoleum in North America

Taiwan

Tony recently went to Taiwan for a conference. It was his first experience in an Asian country and he enjoyed it. Because he was at a conference, he didn’t get many pictures, but he did show up the Asians he was with in using chopsticks. He went to Taipei 101, which is the 2nd tallest building in the world. There is a 660 ton steel ball at the top that helps balance the building with the wind.
